I came across an interesting concept of Web4. What is it? Let's have a look:
The Evolution of the Web
Web1 (Internet) – Built the foundation (HTTP, HTML, e-commerce).
Web2 (Social Media) – Democratized content creation.
Web3 (Blockchains) – Decentralized value with crypto assets.
Web4 (Social Money) – Democratizes money creation itself.
What is Web4?
Web4 shifts money from a centralized, government-controlled system to a community-driven social technology.
In today's worls anyone can create money or some sort of valuta, Communities, memes, causes, even individuals.
Money becomes expressive like TikTok vs. BBC, social monies reflect culture, values, and purpose. Ofcourse fiat won’t disappear but it becomes one option among many.
Why Social Money?
Social money or simpe trade like how it used to be has a historical precedent: Rai stones, tally sticks, local scrips—money was always a social tool and a way for people to survive. Bitcoin also proved that a decentralized currency can thrive on collective belief.
The Big Idea: Infinite Monies
Money must be scarce (within a system) but monies can be infinite (different systems for different needs). When this happens competition strengthens the ecosystem like Bitcoin’s success boosting all crypto, a simple supply and demand.
Final Thought
Web4 isn’t just about new tech, it’s about reclaiming money as a social construct. The next evolution of the web won’t just connect information or assets, it will connect human incentives at scale. Just like our precious focus about tokenamizing TIME, Web4 could also potentially see an up-rise but only if widely accepted and adopted by all.
Money must be scarce. But monies? Infinite.** 🚀
